I've actually tried Milkshape3D before. Though it does work to some extent, the export plugins are not the best for Maya. You tend to lose polygons/normals in the conversion process. Also, I'm trying to get something along the price lines of $free .

1) Power and functionality
2) Ease of use
3) Strength of dynamic interactions
4) Cross-compatibility (works with Windows, Mac OS, and Linux)
I also want to use Maya to comply with designer preferences. My graphic designers for Tri5 Software use a multitude of software and it would be nice to allow them to use the programs they prefer, rather than having them learn new ones.
