Jesse, It sounds to me that your team needs an engineering mentor who at least has some basic knowledge of drive trains. I will give you some quick advice, but your team needs to thoroughly understand this so you will be prepared to deal with it at competitions.

The Bosch drill motors, by themselves run at extremely high speed and with very low torque. This means that you must use a transmission / gearbox of some type to convert your power to a more useful state. Luckily, FIRST provides a drill transmission that you can use.

Do as much research as you can on the FIRST website where rookie workshops are archived. Also, look in the these CD papers area (menu item in orange band above) to look for drive train basics in some white papers.
