Re: first year team needs help

first of all, welcome the the real world of student engineering, this is the life.

like the others said, you do not need to make complext mechanisms, our first year we were a box with wheels. While i did not take the time to read all of the above posts, here is something you can do to make up for lost time, we're going to be doing it ourselves. Hold a team meeting, tell the other members where you stand and he harsh, not degrading to the team spirit, but dont let them, or yourself just go eh, whatever, it'll happen sometime. Stay afterschool everyday possible, since our team is also an engineering class, we have alot of time. On the weekends, try to spend every waking minute working on the robot,we only have one more month - a few days, its crunch time. Try not to be a jerk of a team leader, but dont be weak person who will settle for less than the best that your team can do, be stern.

As for the robot, id say gathering balls is your best bet, the most complex you really need is maybe 2 arms on pneumatic cylinders, and that could be too complex if you are out of time, just try to make it functional, no one expects a first year team to beat a seasoned vetran, but it could happen.
an important thing is your tactics, we had a great robot last year, worked well and everything, but we did poorly because we had no practice time and did little prep work on plans for each match. take a look at the field drawings and plan out as much of the match as possible, due to our lack of planning last year, a 1st year team beat us brutally
AND DONT FORGET, this is meant to be FUN, not give us ulsers, though some of us designers have them every year, lol

hope this helped, have fun
