See the diagram in the rules section 5.6.8, Figure 5.2.
It shows how the wires on the banner sensor connect.


You only need the black OR the white wire connected to a digital input. One is on when the sensor sees something, the other is on when the sensor doesn't see anything.

The 12v connection is to power the light as well as the sensor feedback.
The ground can be any ground.
