Hmmm... Boy, that's doesn't sound right at ALL... I'm an older guy, and that sure doesn't jive with what I've lived. I grew up hearing "Duct Tape", and never even HEARD of "Duck Tape" before the late 1980's. <Keith does some web research...>
I just checked with Manco, maker of Duck Tape.
Sure enough. Their official history agrees with my experience. According to Manco's timeline, "Duct" came first by 45 years! See:
