If my team left our home zone to spite the winning alliance, we'd only be hurting ourselves. Not only would we also end up with zero qualifying points, but I'm certain that if either of our opponents were in a position to pick an alliance partner, they'd think more than twice before picking up my team.

I disagree.
The rules of the game are clear. In the elimination rounds, it is winner take all, but in the seeding rounds, the name of the game is maximize seeding points.
I think it is perfectly okay for a alliance to score zero in an effort to make the other alliance give up a goal.
To me, it is all part of the game.
Similarly, a team that builds a killer seeding round robot and then picks the best elimination round robots to win a regional has just as much claim to the title as the two robots that won all the matches in the elims.
Again, the rules are clear. We are all trying to maximize our chances of winning a tourney while staying within the rules.
I'm good with it anyway...
