Yea, that was our original design, but then we decided to make it simple, and just get there before people and not worry about them protecting the bar against us. To protect the bar, we have 3 foot lexan guards that are placed over the bar. They look like the symbol Pi. The bar rests in the bottom, and the lexan lays a flat piece on top of the bar about a foot in width. Other team's hooks hit the piece of lexan, which rotates as they grasp onto it. Therefore, they cannot grasp the bar due to our SODS (shields of doom)
