Re: Linksys Router Help

(I know that sometimes the login information can hang on if you switch computers..) Also, your DNS servers could possibly be down so try pinging something like: 64.233.161.99 [google] or 207.46.156.188 [microsoft]. If those respond, something probably got screwed up between your ISP's DNS servers, your modem getting the wrong DNS servers, your router screwing something up, or your computer not properly using the router's pass-through DNS server (or whatever the real term is). Also, I believe linksys broadband routers have a diagnostic part where you can see if the connection is up along with the DNS servers and all that fun stuff.. play around in there and see if it's going and if there's been any traffic. (Even though your computers may not be able to get online, the router should still be sending idle traffic to your ISP). If you can't find out in the router if everything is working, call up your ISPs tech support just to make sure everything on their end is working properly.. (I wouldn't even bother asking my ISP for support with that, most ISPs generally don't do tech support for 2+ computers). That would just be a point when linksys supports throws out the all-too-common "It's your ISPs problem, not ours!" that we've all come to loathe.

Also, CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD FOR YOUR ROUTER LOGIN! Whew. Do that after you get everything set up. Unless you live 10 miles away from a road, you'll probably have a wardriver go by your house. (I wardrove.. err.. warwalked.. through my neighborhood of 5 houses and found 2 WAPs with no protection whatsoever. Good thing I'm a nice kid )

Hope this helps. (Anyone wanna hire me as a tech-support drone? )
Ok Pinged Google and Microsoft and of course the winner is drumrole plz ---- Google. Microsoft Timed out. I know for a fact that ain't nobody in my neighborhood that has a wireless router setup.... its a known fact since i hooked up 90% of the people on my blocks pc systems lol..... anyways i get traffic through some not all websites. this goes the same when i have it directly plugged into the dsl line. i have changed my routers IP and Subnet Mask. My ISP has supported all 3 of my computers on sunday and sunday night (days b4 then i had it hookep up backwards [for nearly 3 months lmao] and then me and my father sought out the reason why i wasn't having multiple pcs online at once [plugged the dsl in the hub part of the router and not the WAN port {stupid me}] and then all of it just stopped getting info from certain sites. maybe the DNS & my ISP is using is being dumb. the router sees my ISP's IP, DNS, Subnet Mask and i have the router set up as my DHCP, i have no PPPoe -- or whatever it is:-) my ISP does not require a login name or PW and in typing all this I'm missing what is going on on my Blog, FIRST's site, Windows Update and my Hotmail Account and Unemployment Insureance for my father!

I should be happy that Yahoo and Chiefdelphi still work as well as Tripod and Google <--- which I never use adn digitallyimported.com lol :-)
