the problem with going with points is you get a big advantage if your team gets into the elimination rounds and it's not always the best seeded teams that always get in. In our division last year Children of the Swamp seeded 17 and did not get picked. You penalize allinces (whomever your three teams are) because they did not meet the preferance of seeded teams. There are teams that would get picked no matter what (like 71 Beaty robotics. They'd get picked if they sent a pile of parts out to the field).
At least with wins and losses (with an emphasis on w/l percentage) it's a little more fair. BTW the John V Neun example in the sample is an extream example. I doubt anyone is going to do that well.
