For that to be legal, you need to obtain it from one of the 4 suppliers (Digikey, Future, Newark, or Radio Shack) and it cannot cost more than $100. Last time I checked, you couldn't buy the gyrochip from any of those vendors, and I think it cost more than $100 anyway.

A better bet would be to check out the ADXRS150EB from Analog Devices - it's a better gyro to begin with, weighs less, and it meets the above requirements.
