Re: Ahh! Prom!

Ugh. Proms are evil. I went to an all girl school and I was very, very shy. I skipped my junior prom, and almost skipped my senior prom because there was no way I was going to ask someone, not me. While talking about it at work one night, one of the waiters offered to be my date. As a matter of fact, he was super excited about it, and couldn't wait to rent a tux. I was happy. My parents weren't because he was 30 years old and undeniably gay. The same night he invited himself, a friend of mine who knew her brother had a crush on me asked him to go with me (she did not tell me she was doing this) and he said yes. I didn't want to go with him, he was boring, he had absolutely no passion for anything, he was fussy, he was petrified of dogs and hated cats because they licked themselves in public. But I said yes to him because my parents were having conniptions over the gay man. I should have stood up to my parents; my prom would have been a lot more memorable and fun if I had.

Last year one of the students on our team asked me to the prom. He just thought it would be the coolest thing if I went. However, his prom was the same day I had scheduled to go skydiving so I told him as nicely as I could, that I would rather throw myself from a plane than go to prom with him. He wasn't too broken up about it; he turned right around and asked Dave Lavery to go with him.
