A beginner doesn't usually "fall off" a unicycle. Most of the time, as soon as you lose your balance, the uni kind of squirts out from under you like a watermelon seed and you suddenly find yourself standing on the ground.

(Unless you're trying to ride one with a chain and an extra high seat, that is, in which case knee pads and a helmet -- and maybe the suggested bubble-wrap suit -- are definitely a good idea.)
