It's sand, and lots of it. That trail is about 20 feet long. We used sandbags to prop the barrier around the field, which turned out to be a really good idea when we had controller interference and some robots were driven into the wall pretty hard by accident. Most people there had never seen FIRST robots and got way closer than I would ever get during a match. Luckily no one got hurt by the 'bots that night.
