You've probably seen a few threads of mine relating to my seemingly neverending quest to turn my saved-from-the-trash Macintosh Classic into something really cool. My end goal is to make it serve an html document and an image on the WWW.
example 1 example 2 I'm getting very close. I have System 7.5 installed and MacTCP installed. I have MacWeb browser installed. My Asante SCSI>Ethernet adapter and drivers are coming this week.
Now, all I need is MacHTTP (
www.machttp.org). This is where the problem lies. It comes as a self extracting archive file but when I go to open it, it says it will need 6 megs of memory, which a Macintosh Classic obviously does not have. I'm not sure of why the problem occurs since other people are using MacHTTP on a Macintosh Plus (even older than the Classic).
I found an older MacHTTP, version 2.2, that is a Stuffit Expander .sit file. Unfortunately, the only stuffit that my Mac has is the very early "Unstuffit" which contrary to its name, will not unstuff this file. I suppose I need a newer Stuffit Expander. The problem is, Stuffit Expander, comes stuffed. Basically, you need it in order to get it. So if you never have it in the first place, what do you do?
It is like getting WinZip as a zip file. What do you do?
I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me with this. All I need to do is get MacHTTP on to that Mac. Unfortunately, the only computer that I currently have online is a PC. But luckily I have TransMac installed, a program to write Mac floppy disks.
If I had another Mac, this would be easy because I could unstuff the files and then put them on floppies for the Classic. But the files must remain stuffed on a PC otherwise they get corrupted.
I have searched until the end of the Internet and have tried everything I could think of. And now, I ask you for help.
