It isn't as expensive as you might think. You can grab a used Turbo Charger from a junk yard for 40 bucks, maybe even for free if you tell em what your gonna do with it. if you want more info on what it takes to build a jet engine from a super charger, feel free, like I said, to email me. This site is for robotics, not really jet propulsion. But, it you wanted to start a thread in chit-chat or something, I'd be more than happy to comment, and go into detail about it.

You could just start a topic in the science forum. Anyway it doesn't seem that hard to build a jet engine out of scrap parts. I have seen it done twice on junkyard wars.
