Re: 2004 Season for Fantasy Football, FIRST Robotics league

Rhode Island Charge (3-4) d. The Lightning (4-3)
88-52
”The Lightning are going to need big games from Edgerrin James and Rudi Johnson to cover for Tim Rattay, but they may have their hands full overcoming Priest Holmes and Willis McGahee.” In another great day of Ed making my job slightly easier, the italicized quote prettymuch calls it as it is. James and Johnson combined for 13 (though Keyshawn Johnson had 17 for The Lightning high score), and Tim Rattay sat due to injury. Meanwhile, Priest Homes (26) and Willis McGahee (17) combined for 43, and Rhode Island had a 24 in defense. The Charge’s one downside: Drew Brees scored 35, and he was on the bench (which would’ve given them the highest score of the year). Yay, quarterback enigmas! But either way, Rhode Island moves to the top of the .500 bracket.

This Space for Rent (2-5) d. Koko's X-Cats (4-3)
52-48
Holy close games, Batman! To say this game was favored by either team would be deluding yourself. Both teams had their ups and downs. Testeverde came through for TSfR with 19. Ahman Green hit 18 for the Cats. The Cats even had the receiving game 16-4. The closeness of this game though comes from a defensive 18 from TSfR, which The X-Cats couldn’t match. TSfR wins their third straight.

South Fl Jets (4-3) d. Coco's Monkeys (4-3)
81-77
What is wrong with the Monkeys? Simply put, nothing. Except being on the losing end of now four close games. You’d figure with a Manning 36 plus 21 from the receivers, you’d have a win. Unfortunately, they drew the (quite varying in strength) Jets this week, who had their best game all year. This includes an 18 running, 17 in the WR category, 14 from the kicker spot, and 24 on defense. Their only weakness was an underperforming QB (and even his 8 is more than the difference between the teams, so he did his part). The Monkey’s fall to .500 again.

Dunedain (1-6) d. Hurricanes (1-5-1)
71-53
“Battle of the cellar dwellers.” Well, okay, I guess calling it the Toilet Bowl was neither gracious nor professional. Though contrary to the previous, this game surprisingly didn’t stink (okay, no more jokes). Dunedain had their best game of the year, led by Pittsburgh’s 21. How does an 18 from Tony Gonzalez sound? And a 12 by the kicker? Pretty good when you consider that the only outstanding performance from the Hurricanes was Shaun Alexander’s 21, leaving them alone in the basement.

Toronto Fumblers (3-4) d. Bonecrushers (5-2)
71-33
“The Fumblers have been hot since changing their name…” That’s a resounding “yes”. The Phantom Fumblers (you know, people fumbling that don’t exist) had 15 from Rookie of the Year candidate Ben Roelthlisberger. They also had a total of 34 on defense (and hey, that would’ve been enough). What can I say about the Bonecrushers? They Dunedained quite badly this week (or should that be Hurricaned now?). Even their reliable Byron Leftwich failed with a -2. The best they got was Terrell Owens’s 11 in their second straight loss.

Cooney Quest (6-1) d. The Borg (3-4)
52-34
Yet another victory for Cooney Quest without leaving the 50’s. We can also attribute this win to having an easy draw in The Borg, who’s only notable score was Burrress’s 15. And we can contribute this loss to having four 0’s on offense. Enough bad news: let’s talk about the Quest. Their offense wasn’t that competitive, but with a defensive score of 25, they didn’t need much else for a seventh straight victory.

The Shoats (4-2-1) d. JC's Juggernauts (3-4)
105-47
Um, wowza. I can talk quite a bit about the Juggernauts, including a 20 on defense and Curtis Martin having 11. I think that’s it on this game. Oh wait we have ONEHUNDRED AND FIVE POINTS! Calm down, Eddie, calm down. Hmm, we’ll start by comparatively mentioning that The Shoats had 30 on defense. We can also compare running games, of which The Shoats had a combined 23. Receiving only got better with 34 total. To top it off is Jake Delhomme and his 14. This was a much needed game for them, and they delivered.

Nor Cal Crushers (3-4) d. Valleygirls (5-2)
56-39
It’s the annual Nor Cal versus So Cal rivalry. And this year, it wasn’t an extremely lopsided victory for the Valleygirls. In fact, it wasn’t a victory for them at all. They also Dunedained quite badly this week. With the exception of Harrington’s 14, the Girls were essentially nonexistent. Which was all well and good for the Crushers, who needed this game badly to stay in contention for the playoffs. And while they weren’t very existent either, they had a 25 from Trent Green leading them. They did everything better than their opponent this week, and move up to the low end of the .500 group.

Stud Man Clan (2-5) d. Philly Cheesesteaks (5-2)
48-42
How did this happen? On paper, Philly should’ve clobbered the Clan. In fact, even on the scoreboard, it looked like the Cheesesteaks dominated, even with their only bright spot being a 12 from one receiver and an 11 from the kicker spot. On the Clan’s side, the RBs and WRs combined to a total of a rather large circular hole in the ground. Evening part of the game out would be a 10 from the K. We skedaddle to the quarterback. That’s when I realized that Trent Green’s 22 outscored the rest of Philly’s offense. Philly got hit with a rather strange burst of bad luck, which will probably only last this week. Nonetheless, with this, the Stud Man Clan keep playoff hopes alive.
