Well it depends on the tape that you use.
I'm assuming we are talking standard VCR tapes. If you are talking anyother format, I do not know. (Other formats include the typical camcorder tapes, Hi-8, MiniDV, 8mm, SVHS)
A standard VHS tape is 2 hours on SP, 4 on LP, 6 on EP
if you are planning on reusing this footage in a production tape (using it as stock footage to edit with) you would need to record it in SP or better. (Better than SP would preclude standard VCR's and move you into camcorders)
There are 8hour tapes, but they are 8 hours on EP mode, and are 2.5 on SP mode.
If you are only planning on showing this tape a few times, EP is good. IF you want to use it to edit more stuff togetehr, you run into generations of tapes, and you have to use SP mode for the quality.
