Re: measurement problems?

In the past wood was cut with a band saw to the exact dimensions and sold as is. This is call rough saw-en lumber. It was found that wood could be planned smooth up to a 1/2 in smaller and not loose strength. So now lumber is sold a 1/2 inch undersized in all dimensions and planned smooth.
