I'll bring up another point. The rules say all three robots must be in you endzone.

Come elimination time, the rules state:

only two (or even one) teams. It is in the best interests of all teams to construct their robots to be as robust as possible to prevent this situation.
So, if two robots in you alliance break, tough luck.
