Thumbs up Valkyrie's cobwebs

118's first practice round today was a qualified success. Rob and Nathan had the new drive train up and running by match time, and it performed well for the first few minutes. Valkyrie was quick off the line, grabbed two goals, and nudged them into scoring position.

Then, while the field was being reset for another run at the goals, our stage team noticed that the high speed chain had broken, due to a weak or poorly connected link. Jestin cleared the broken chain, and decided to continue using low speed, which was still working great.

While continuing practice in low speed mode, Jestin and Bob both got a chance to show off their moves. Jestin was in a pushing match with our opponents (I don't remember the number, sorry) and literally drove circles around them. Bob also had the chance to drive a few circles of his own. After deploying mini-me with one minute left in practice, the two robot, two goal continent started rotating the opposite direction that Bob was driving the mini-me. He turned around, and drove it in a perfect circle, keeping the tether clear of all goals and robots until he had a straight shot to the endzone. A beautiful move.

Unfortunately, the low speed chain also jumped late in the match, and bent the new axle. This caused us to miss our next practice round, but the good news is that we think we finally have the problem under control, and we shouldn't have any more drive train trouble.

I'll post another update after our next practice, on Einstein at 3:48.
