Geez, it hurts when guys talk about "cute" girls. I'm a very shy person and I would have the hardest time trying to start a conversation with a guy, though I did give this dude (that I have a major crush on) a handmade Valentine card (which he loved!!!, I think...). Sorry so long.
Ohhhh trust me, I know how you're feeling. I have changed so much since high school (no guy had ever asked me out or got near me in high school)... and FIRST is the reason for all that change. No guys really approached me at FIRST Regionals either; it was I who had to learn the art of walking up to them, starting a conversation with them about their robot, and let it go from there (boy, did that usually work too! ). It's a skill that has evolved into an ability to talk to VIPs and getting them interested in FIRST.

In addition, I've noticed that guys usually talk ABOUT "cute" girls but they don't talk TO them. Us enginerd girls are far too interesting for them to pass up . Nevertheless, If the guy would prefer the "cute" one, then they are not my type anyway.
