Team 296 (I think?) at our UTC New England Regional used a tablet PC. They already had a wifi net set up for sundial (nice job, 296, just get the bugs out and you're ready to go!), so it looked like they were using their web server and a mysql database to retrieve scouting information via WiFi from IE and store it in the DB.
The web-based method is pretty neat, since you can then go around with any WiFi laptop (or even a WiFi PDA like my Zaurus

) and scout like that.
