I suggest you change the layout altogether, if it wouldn't take too long, for one simple reason. This is how I test a custom layout: I blur my vision by focusing way in front of the screen, then look at the site.
When I did that with your site, my point of focus on your site went from the header, to the red menu bar in the middle of the page, to the main body of text, then right off the right side of the page. The horizontal red bar along with the vertical red bar direct one's focus away from the information
. Hopefully that's not too in-depth of an analysis.
