Sometimes you can make a friend at a regional and not even realize it until you see them again later.

At Philly in 2003, I was walking through the pits when a bearded college student in a Segway T-shirt recognizes me and starts talking to me. I recognized him after he said that I helped his team with programming at VCU in 2002. We talked for a bit. He said he was going to RIT now and mentoring team #73. As all you FIRST-a-Holics out there could probably guess, the bearded guy from RIT is Greg Needel.

I’ve seen Greg at the Championship every year since then, although he hasn’t come back to Philly since then (that I know of).

One great thing about the Championship is: The list of FIRST friends you want to see there grows every year.
