Actually, Tiffany, this idea was one of those born out of a brainstorming session.

Like many others, we give out Team Awards such as our clapping MOEstix Team Spirit trophy, but every year at Championships we see many examples of positive FIRST behavior that really do not fall into a "team" catgegory. The behavior is usually more individual in nature; acts of courtesy or assistance toward one another, the enthusiastic spirit leader(s) of a team, the impromptu activities that bring folks from different teams together, etc. These all contribute to the great event and the party atmosphere that we enjoy each year, and make it three wonderfully hectic days.

Because the actions are individual, we thought the recognition should reflect that as well. We decided to charge ourselves with the task of personally recognizing individual actions that we feel contribute positively to the FIRST community. The buttons are a visual symbol that someone from our team observed behavior that would "Make Your Grandmother Proud."

Will we be able to officially recognize all the positive FIRST behaviors in Atlanta? No, that is an impossible task for any team, even one as large as the Miracle Workerz. We hope and encourage other teams to join in the task of recognizing positive individual actions at the Championship, and if they have time, create a button, ribbon or other visual symbol to commemorate the recognition.

Who knows, if all teams worked together on this task, maybe we could officially recognize all the behaviors that make this FIRST community so great.
