RCU

Carolyn, I am sorry that you seem rather dissappointed that there was nothing there.

Flair, to answer your question, the RCU is an open forum for females on FIRST teams to meet & talk about various subjects. We have members from across the nation, and we will be having an annual meeting at Nationals, similar to what we did this season. This is rather eerie for me to say because yesterday I decided that I would ask you if you wanted to join. It has been agreed upon that males will be able to join, we're just rather stuck on what to call them and how to run it so noone seems slighted.

It is popular opinion that something needs to be done to bring more substance to the group, but it is a rather hard task to complete. Think about it, 165 girls from across the nation, run by a girl in CT and a girl in NH from different teams who talk predominately over instant messager. It isnt an organization run by a team, and it isnt an organization run by someone who has very close ties to FIRST (as is SharingFIRST or SME). I haven't seen an organization with those characteristics grow to a large scale within FIRST yet.

Plus, the email list has been rather quiet lately, and I feel rather frustrated that there really is nothing to say between the girls. They are such a great resource, and I know that they can work hard if they feel that it is for a worthy cause...I just wish that we were considered a worthy cause to the girls.

Furthermore, it seems that the FIRST community could care less about the group; I dont know how many of you read the RCU Illuminaries articles, but due to lack of interest (among other things) they have been stretched out to maybe one a month instead of one a week.

In my opinion, something is blocking Kristen & I from raising the quality, and thus later raising the quantity of the group. We should be having a meeting with FIRST in the late summer, and we will schedule it once this Team Forum stuff dies down.

If anyone has any opinion about how to raise the quality/worth of the group, or how to grow the organization, or just advice in general, please let me know by replying or email. I know all of you are very opinionated people, and have some very good ideas, and I would like to tap that. Thank you.

To answer your question again, Flair, it is amazing to see all these girls from all over sitting down and talking at Nationals....and instantly having a rather silent comraderie that I find incomparable to anything else. I think its worth it, but thats just my opinion.
