There's no real answer here. Run all the stats you want, but the point is that there is no best FIRST state. They can not be compared against eachother since there is no equal playing field for them to be compared upon: land mass, industry makeup, taxes/gov't funding, even quality of life factor in. So, until we can agree on a metric to define the point of this post, there's just no way to answer this.

PS - I have been to every state, except for Alaska, so I think that makes me very qualified to identify the best FIRST state, and I declare it to be Indiana.
