OK, I gotta take Dave's side now. Just because you have never heard of the
"Billfred I-Never-Signed-Up-For-This Fairness Doctrine" doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Based on some the rulings I've seen come out of the court system, the fact that you created the contest, the rules, the rulings, and serve as the benevolent dictator of the contest has no bearing on whether some other entity can claim jurisdiction and decide what you really meant.
As you may recall in "Morrison vs Martus", the court ruled that "an engineer with a hawaiian shirt can claim habeus corpus ludicrus and award himself points provided his vehicle is still operational on another planet and the vehicle is legally registered with the DMV in his home state, unless that state is Indiana whereby the vehicle must be weigh at least 120 pounds without the battery."
If it doesn't fit, you must acquit. So Dave should be awarded 1.8 points based on the gear ratio of his team's lowest speed in the 2003 competition.
