1. The cable you are using is intended to go to a PC. An RS232 link contains two ends. One end is called the Data Terminal Equipment (DTE). The other end is called Data Communications Equipment (DCE). PCs are DTE, while modems and most embedded controllers are DCE.

I do not think you want a null modem cable.

2. Following the links for your cable I find this which has a pinout very different from port 2 on a FRC controller.

I would look at your wiring more carefully...

Edit: Are you using a handshaking cable? The FRC controller does not support CTS/RTS handshaking.
