Wow, what a great story.
I first heard about FIRST when I saw a 60 minutes piece on Dean Kamen. I was so excited by the piece that I went out and got my hands on all the competition footage I could find
. I was just enthralled. I tried to join 662 but they wouldn't let me cause I was still in middle school
. But they let me come to the meetings and go with them to competition though, which was simply AMAZING! I mean I wasn't officially on the team, but I was still there soaking it all up and cheering for them. And with that much excitement wetting my appetite, I was like the first new member on the team when they finally let me join the following year
. Going to a competition and getting to learn what it was all about gave me a lot of drive and made for an amazing experience in FIRST. And I've still got a few years to go! I think I've died and gone to heaven
