It's been speculated about before, but a recent
Slashdot article has brought it back up: will there be a Google IM client soon?
Out of curiosity, I tried a couple of "experiments" (ok, they're boring, but hey)
- Check if the rumored talk.google.com exists - Well, Google doesn't appear to find it, does it? But, what happens if you go to something which you know doesn't exist? You get a different error...
- Also, if you try connecting to talk.google.com using a Jabber client, you get an authentication error not the "couldn't connect to host" error you get if you try to connect to say, blar.google.com.
Hm... I'm starting to believe the rumors.
What do you think? Will Google attempt to
take over our chatting as well?
P.S. On the attempt to connect to talk.google.com with the Jabber plugin for Gaim, I used my Google account info.
