Although they do have the choice to do whatever they want with it, it would be an excellent move on their part. Building upon a already-created connection gives your team a much higher chance at being noticed. A perfect example of this is Team 007. Although I remember them back in the day when they were the Parkville Knights, building upon the James Bond theme makes much more sense, and doesn't seem to limit their efforts.

Note: There is a difference, however, between getting noticed and getting recognized, and that subtle difference is actually doing something exemplary: "Oh, that's the team with a really fast robot" or "Hey, I heard they run 16 FLL teams". But, getting recognized is a whole lot easier if you're noticed first.
