Robbe Extreme scores big in World Cup
Team 56's Robbe Extreme scored big in the USA/Portugal World Cup Game earlier this week. Made for handling soccer balls, the triumphant FIRST robot rapidly retrieved balls and crossed them to attacking US teammates. Pictured below is Robbe assisting USA striker Donovan in one of the 3 US goals. Team USA eventually triumphed in the 3-2 win.
When questioned about the legality of having FIRST robots play in FIFA sanctioned matches head referee Boris Biscovicic stated
"Robbe does possess a valid FIFA player pass and is the youngest member of the USA squad ever(less than 1 year old). Being made of metal the machine is not required to wear shin guards (especially since it lacks shins)"
When questioned about ball handling by the machine, Biscovicic explained "a player cannot be charged with ball handling if he/she doesn't have hands, therefore Robbe cannot be charged with handling the ball" The point that Robbe entered the field holding 20 soccer balls remains unexplained
