Re: What kind of car do you drive??

Well, as an update since I posted 2 weeks ago, I bought another car............for parts.

I had the word out I was looking to replace the tired Oldsmobile 307 in my Caprice wagon and I found someone who wanted to sell a 1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with a good running 307 in it and lower mileage (103k instead of the 167k mine has). It's a lot cheaper than buying a rebuilt long block or even rebuilding the current original motor in the Caprice. The other problem was even though my car is a Chevy it came from the factory with the Olds 307 (engine code "Y" in the VIN) which I found out means a Chevy 305 or 350 won't bolt in. They used a different bolt pattern and unless I wanted to swap out bell housings/transmissions/possibly also the drive shaft and exhaust...........more work and money than I wanted to get involved in.

Although the Delta 88 is in good shape and road worthy it has a major cosmetic strike against it and the reason I got it REAL cheap and why the person before me was having trouble selling it. It was an extra car that was done up for a Halloween display last year. The car was originally silver with a gray vinyl top but was sprayed black and had a black and purple leopard print top installed. The grill and some trim was removed and sprayed gold before being reinstalled. The car is pimp! I'll have to get photos of it since no one would probably believe me. It's not at my house since I don't have room for it, nor do I want to be seen driving it! It's several towns away from me where I'm stripping it before junking the remains but I'll have to remember to bring my camera one of the days.

I did find photos of a similar 1984 Delta 88 on Ebay which I attached so you'll atleast know what it looks like....................just instead of the maroon, picture it flat black with gold trim and a black/purple leopard print top!
