If any one reads wired magazine There was an artical about a year ago that was about Da Vinci Designing robots (pre electricity) I also remember reading about a competition based on this project (likely in either wired or POP SCI). So it is possible and im sure if any team could do it an be competitive then they would win at least a design award. Think a fully autonomous robot without any need for a programmer.
