Re: hurricane season 05

Being amateur radio operators, my family leaves right after the hurricane to help at shelters or where ever help is needed. It is now illegal to listen to police bands on a radio or scanner while driving, but today we did that. We are allowed to because of the our licenses. All day we were listening to the Martin County Emergency Operations Center and emergency communications. I don't know where I will be deployed in the next ten hours or so, but I plan to help many people, possibly saving lives. I better go get some sleep soon, it will be kind of hard with that hurricane.

Remember, don't step in puddles. Don't touch metal fences. Don't do anything stupid like that because there will be down powerlines everywhere. Barely anyone is killed in a hurricane; many people are killed afterwards from doing stupid things. Never run your generator unless it is in a very well ventillated area and let it cool down before refueling. Do not go out driving Monday unless absolutely needed. Leave the roads open for emergency vehicles.

School in Martin County is canceled Monday and Tuesday so far. Good luck everyone and stay safe.
