We're planning on putting in a hole in the bottom-side of our hopper that is just over 7", only allowing one ball at a time to go to the shooter. The rest of them can be safely dumped. Unfortunately, this means the shooting mechanism is toward the bottom of our robot, which means it can be easily blocked. Also, it would shoot from the side, not the front or back of the robot. I suppose if you're going with a catapult design, this could work out well.
