I'm homeschooled, so it's all homework!
Actually, I take one class with my homeschool group, and the rule is, if you know about an absence before it happens, you get the assignment early and turn it in either early or right after you get back. It's been that way practically forever.
(Interesting anecdote: one year, so many students were on the robotics team that a whole class day was cancelled. It's also happened to the occaisional class where most of the members are in robotics.)
