Here are a few things I noticed that I noticed at the UTC Scrimmage:
Tipping Over:
The one thing which struck me as surprising was the number of robots that tipped over. At least every match it seemed as if some robot had either tipped backwards while trying to score in the side goals or while trying to get on the ramp.
Getting on the ramp:
Getting on the ramp is
not a very easy task. For a lot of teams, once they are on the ramp, they cannot get off or they will tip over. Many of the teams with six wheel drive and/or shooters high up had a very difficult time attempting to get onto the ramp.
Ball Hoppers and Storage:
Also, even though it was just a scrimmage, many of the teams could not store that many balls inside their robot. About half of the teams there could not store more than 10 or so balls in their robots.
Balls are everywhere:
To the teams who can only load from human players, good luck. After the second period of the game, about 2/3 of all the balls on the field were loose on the ground. Many of these came from failed scoring attempts and from human players missing the side goals. However, if your team has an effective ball gatherer from the floor, you will be able to amass large numbers of balls relatively easily.
N.E.R.D.s are everywhere!
Grady wasn't kidding when he said the N.E.R.D. population was about to skyrocket! There are more N.E.R.D.s now than you can can shake a stick at!
