Re: Winter War Zone/UTC Scrimmage February 18
From my un-technical perspective - it was hard for me to figure out who was winning, scoring-wise (but then, it usually takes me a while to figure out the game so my comments may not be valid). Spectators were confused. The periods are very short and I think it took teams a while to catch on - beware of being offsides. It seemed like a lot of balls were being shot overtop of the goals. A lot of tipping since the center of gravity is high on a lot of these robots, like was mentioned before, and without having an arm for leverage once the robots were overturned they couldn't right themselves. Not much accomplished in the autonomous mode, but that could change as robots are perfected in the coming days. Lots of stray balls going outside the playing field, including a whole bunch of them being shot at us in the bleachers at one point, mid-day (Stu from Buzz has it on video and it would be great to post on CD). Thankfully they were poofballs and no one was injured.
This was a great day, as always, allowing us the opportunity to see the game played out, to work on our robots with other teams' assistance, to get NEMs together to talk about our concerns, and to meet new friends and greet old ones! Thanks to 176, 230, Andy and all the folks from FIRST, etc. who put on another great scrimmage!
