Re: So, what did you name your baby?

We discussed a lot, but ended on SARTANYAC: Beta Project. We began with SARTANYAC last year, when in a brainstorming session I made up a long and obnoxious acronym standing for the Super Awesome Robot That Always Needs Your Aluminum Cans (an aluminum can drive is our main fundraiser). We then tacked a 3000 on the end to make it sounds kind of cheesy and funny, finishing last year with SARTANYAC 3000. This year, we decided we wanted to continue with SARTANYAC, but didn't know where it should logically go. SARTANYAC 2 was less than 3000, SARTANYAC 4000 doesn't stand out, SARTANYAC 4 sounds like its our fourth robot, etc. Then we decided to follow it with text, as opposed to numbers. We, in the end, decided on SARTANYAC: Beta Project, with the Beta portion signifying that it was our second robot. I think we're going to stick with SARTANYAC in the future, and already have starting thinking up names for next year's bot.

I also will add we had joked about naming our robot Chuck Norris during the build season. I don't think FIRST would allow it, but we figured with our spinning capabilities we could hinge a boot that would swing out when spinning, thereby initiating a "roundhouse kick". We found it funny at least.
