We eventually settled on calling the action of pulling back the arm "winding", to avoid s$@#$@#$@#$@#$@#$@#s (and filters). Winding the arm into place automatically loads a waiting ball into position to be flung. The major limit on launch rate is the brief time it takes for the newly loaded ball to stop bobbling so it goes straight when flung.
