Personally i'm not fond of pickup lines, so good for you for not using them.

And yes, i agree that the word "Hot" seems degrading. I'd never use that to describe anyone, whether it be a boy or girl, and i doubt that has anything to do with people liking you or you going on a date.
I've never really gotten any true 'pickup lines' at a competition, but since i tend to run around painted pink with a pink bikini top on with a couple of other girls and guys, we tend to get quite a bit of attention and lots of inquiries about "Hey can we take a picture with you?" I've gotten buttons and business cards and all the like, but i'd have to say that the most effective way to "pick up" a girl (if thats what you're interested in) is to just walk up to her and introduce yourself and start talking. Or you could just randomly join in a game of limbo or twister (the latter can work pretty well to break the ice) to meet new people. Just dont be afraid to say hi, and dont worry about acting stupid or dorky in front of a girl. Chances are, she'll probably think you're cute because of it.

Actually, wear a "Free Hugs" sign, and you'll be surprised at how many hugs you get.

yep... romantic stuff happens at regionals, and i dont think that has anything to do with lack or acquisition of "girl knowledge". i actually know of a couple of people (myself included) who have met their significant others through robotics somehow.

Being at a Regional gives you plenty to talk about with a girl who's there (since often times i hear that boys never know what to say when they're with a girl)... the only downside is that if you meet someone from another team, theres a pretty likely chance that they live pretty far away from you... whether its across the state or across the nation. Just keep that in mind
