Re: Buckeye Regional Thanks

I'd like to thank the volunteers and event planners for keeping the Buckeye Regional running smoothly despite all the background problems with the playing field and scoring system. You did a wonderful job!

Thank you to team 1590 for picking us for the eliminations and 1714, our alliance partner. Sorry we couldn't go further, but it was a great experience for our rookie drive team.

Congratulations to the winning alliance of 272, 494, and 174. With no one out there to effectively disrupt the Martians' autonomous - I knew you couldn't be stopped. Great job!

Congratulations to 461, 1747, and everyone else involved with the Purdue contingent on your many great and well-deserved successes at the Buckeye Regional. These include the WFA (Steve Florence, 461), Engineering Inspiration (461), Regional Finalist (461), Website (461), Visualization (1747), Rookie Inspiration (1747), and Highest Rookie Seed (1747). You all have much to be proud of! Thanks to both of you and also our fellow Delphi team 703 for putting me on the top of Buckeye Fantasy FIRST!

To 135 - you have a great group of kids and a great robot. I really enjoyed my visits to your pit. Best of luck the rest of the season! Quash those IFI Loader demons!

To 120 - The spirit of the people on your team is outstanding. You truly know how to inspire your kids and then inspire other teams through them!

To 1532 - (Case Western Reserve University represent!) Team Spirit is not solely measured by the amount of boisterous activity demonstrated in the stands. It is also measured by how you carry yourselves behind the scenes. No other team in attendance seemed as genuinely happy to simply be there than you. Your gratitude for teams who helped you out (even remembering and thanking us for help we gave you LAST year) was off the charts. We all stand to learn a great deal from you; I know I personally could take a few more cues from you on how to stay positive through adversity. Your Team Spirit award was well deserved, and keep that spirit going strong - it's a powerful tool you can use to generate improvements and greater support for your team in the community and at the university. Get more of those enginerding student hermits at Case to help you out! There is life outside of the dorm room staring at a computer all day (sorry, Case stereotype from back in the day :-P).

To 276 and 379 - Thanks for not only being great teams filled with wonderful people, but also for being great friends.

Thanks to Team 48 Safety Captain (and Star of the Day) Donnell Conner for being so attentive and dedicated to keeping our pit area a safe, clean, and organized place in which to work. Our 2nd consecutive UL Industrial Safety Award and a good portion of our Motorola Quality Award are a direct result of his tireless efforts to improve our team's culture of safe working practices over the past four years. We've come a long way since my first season in 2001, when I recall a mess of tools in the pit, tangled jumper cables strung to 3-4 batteries from a single charger, and other scary tales from safety hell.

Finally, thank you to all the judges for awarding Team 48 the Regional Chairman's Award and also to all the people who gave us their support, thanks, and congratulations at the event. Thanks and congrats also to the 12 other excellent teams who submitted at Buckeye, especially Team 461 for receiving their Engineering Inspiration Award. This past year has been one of transition and change in our team, and it feels great that a wider array of people from even more walks of life came together to step up and keep us going strong throughout it all. Parents and collegiate mentors, you know who you are. So many team members took on more responsibilities this year than ever before, ESPECIALLY our student veterans. You guys are amazing, and I couldn't be prouder of who you have all become. Just remember, there's always the opportunity for improvement. Stay hungry!
