Re: Old Robots?

The Robonauts now have a "plan" for old 'bots. We keep two robots fully functional; Chainzilla (2005) & Magnum (2006) will be dancing until the 2007 robot comes online, then Chainzilla will be retired most probably to help new teams. For example, Immobilus (2003) and Telescorpio (2004) both went to Louisiana and Mississippi for rookie Katrina Teams. Telescorpio was our first crab-drive thus had substantial sentimental value but reports are that Telescorpio loves her new home ... PRICELESS. I hope someday that FIRST enacts a rule that allows rookie teams the use of manufactured parts from a donated robot; maybe the rule should include a weight limit ... how about 40 lbs.

Although only time will tell, we may have to hold onto Magnum for several years because, like most of the other shooters around the country, it is a real crowd pleaser. Since Magnum is already gymnasium compatible with its no-scrub crab drive, we don't believe it will be to difficult to make it a half-court-shooting robot. With a few programming mods, we eventually hope to just have to place the green light directly below the goal on a 3 foot stand and start shooting 3 pointers. CHALLENGE: A dozen Krispy Kreamers to the first team to make a three-pointer during a break at an NBA game.

Have a nice Easter,
Lucien
