Heh... yes. A couple of points here:
I recall setting up the pits in the auxilliary gym a few years ago. The boys basketball team was practicing as we were setting up tables and electrical panels on the perimeter. I noticed a ~7-foot b-ball player on the floor, and asked one of the electricians who the skinny kid was. He just grinned at me and said "yeah, that kid is a freshman... he's gonna be very good."
Also... last year, we were setting up the scoring table, and were wondering how we were going to get a webcast. The year before, I think that we ran an Ethernet cable from about a mile away to do this, and it was a pain. The main electrician said "with all of the media and press coverage we are getting for Oden, the gym now has its own internet connection." So, we do benefit from a strong athletic program at LNHS.
Like it or not, high school basketball is still king in Indiana. As you can read,
9 of the nation's 10 largest high school gyms are in Indiana, and Lawrence North is not even on that list.

ps... it is better to have built a robot and lost than to ever played basketball at all
