Go to the nearest lottery retailer. Buy about $20 in tickets in the form of your choosing. (When I did this exercise, I did about $15 in scratch-offs and $5 in Powerball.)

If your results are anything like mine (I won $0), you will know how well lottery tickets function as financial planning.
