A hex broach can be purchased from McMaster or Small parts for about $100. But it is worth every penny. Team 397 has used it every year since 2002 on anything that we can, even plastic inserts to drive a pvc tube.

Agreed, although we don't have a hex broach, it is really an awesome method to transfer torque between gears and shafts. (Wheels too if you're into live axles)
