Re: So...What Movie Did You Just Watch?

This summer movie season, I have so far been to see:

X3: The Last Stand -- This was entertaining, but not fantastic by any means. There were a great many things that were handled poorly, I think, and I had to immediately consult the internet after watching to learn more about the incidental characters that I'd just seen. If Psylocke looked one bit as she does in the comic book, that'd have been great.

The da Vinci Code -- This wasn't that good, really. Is there anyone that didn't immediately understand what was happening? It makes the movie pointless and it's then frustrating that the documents that exist to support the purported truth are treated so poorly.

Screaming Masterpiece -- This isn't so much a summer blockbuster, but an artsy movie I saw as part of the Seattle International Film Festival. It's about the music scene in Iceland and, since I loathe Bjork, it was really bad. Really, really bad.

Cars -- Fantastic. This movie was so much fun to sit through and I can't understand any of the criticism people have leveled against it. Like many things from Pixar, it was lovingly crafted and that shows in its attentional to detail and nuance. I loved the music in the film as well. Sh-Boom by The Chords is on perpetual repeat, practically.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift -- 17 kinds of awesome. I love cars and racing and, though I'm not a fan of drifting so much, this movie was a ton of fun. It's not going to win anyone an Oscar, certainly, but there's something to be said for things that let you sit back and have a good time for two hours.

Coming up this week, I hope I'll be able to see Superman on Tuesday. I'm interested to see how it'll play in IMAX with the mix of 2D and 3D footage.
