On my laptop I have Ubuntu 6.06 and Windows XP. My desktop has Ubuntu, Windows Vista, and Windows XP. In the past I have used Mandrake Linux (now named Mandriva which I have also used) but I prefer Ubuntu.
If you have one of the wireless cards listed
here then the easiest way to manage your wireless connections would be to use GNOME's NetworkManager. That can be installed by running the command
sudo apt-get install network-manager-gnome or by using the GUI found by going to the Applications menu and clicking on Add/Remove. This worked right out of the box for me - there was nothing else that I had to do (which is really surprising for a Linux distro, especially when being used on a laptop).
